Celebrity cast unveiled for Buxton Opera House pantomime

Buxton Opera House has announced the names of two well-known TV celebrities who will star in its Christmas pantomime.

Sarah Thomas –and Jonny Freeman will tread the boards at the Water Street theatre in the magical family production Cinderella, which will run between December 12 and January 1.

Thomas, best known for her long-running role in ‘Last of the Summer Wine’,– will play Cinderella’s magical Fairy Godmother, while Freeman, who plays a leading role in the popular CBBC sci-fi adventure series ‘M.I. High’, will take on the role of Cinderella’s best friend ‘Buttons.

Writer and director Philip Dart said: ““Cinderella is one of the nation’s best-loved stories and the production will build on all the magical elements that children love while ensuring there is plenty of humour to keep the mums and dads entertained.””

Thomas was one of the original cast members of Last of the ‘Summer Wine’, appearing as Glenda Wilkinson from 1986 to 2010, when the final series was broadcast.

She also played Enid Simmons in the iconic 1980s children’s series ‘Worzel Gummidge’.

When not appearing as school caretaker-turned-spymaster Frank London in CBBC’s M.I. High, Freeman works as a stand-up comedian.
