Conductor shines in his debutconcert with Hallé Orchestra

Conducting a concert by the Hallé Orchestra was a first for Nicholas Collon whose youth and flair brought out the very best in the musicians.

The popular programme was greatly enjoyed by the audience. ‘Till Eulenspiegel’s Merry Pranks’ by Richard Straus was simply fun.

The eminent cellist JianWang was the soloist for Saint-Saens Cello Concerto No 1 and Dvorak’s ‘Silent Woods’, both beautifully played.

Beethoven’s Symphony No 7 was the main work and it was brilliant.

This was a really memorable concert.

l The Sheffield International Concert Season continues on Thursday, November 26 with a performance by the Prague Symphony Orchestra.

This programme will include Beethoven’s Violin Concerto with soloist Chloe Hanslip and Dvorak’s Symphony No 8.
