Gina Jenkinson scooped £100 and a trophy in the sixth annual competition at the Winding Wheel.

She arrived at the competition with a crown, a prop which she often takes to her comedy shows. “I put it on when I’m driving home to Hull- it cheers me up,” she said.

The 42-year-old won over the judges last night (Thursday, July 30) with a sparkling repertoire which included observations on her family, some true, some false and signalled their accuracy or inaccuracy by raising her left or right arm.

Gina turned to writing and performing comedy nearly a year ago after her two boys grew up. She is currently penning a show for next year’s Edinburgh Fringe.

Top-placed Chesterfield contender was Marshal B Anderson, of Newbold, who saw off rivals Jared Shooter from Bolsover and Josh Smith from Creswell.
