Celebrations get off to a high note with musician from the local area and DJs from further afield at The Loft this weekend.

The weekend’s main event is on Saturday, July 19, when Ireland’s very own Dare 2 Disco clubnight comes to Matlock for a night of all things disco, house, funk and soul.

Headlining the night will be DJ Derek Kaye, who is also renowned as a musician, producer, engineer and remixer.

Cited by the legendary Greg Wilson as the person who was instrumental and influential on starting his own illustrious DJ career, Derek has been working dance floors since the 70s from the early funk and soul through disco, jazz funk, electronica, through to house and back and everything in between.

He’s had success recently with sell out vinyl cuts of re- edits and reworks on A&R Edits label of tracks like Chaka Khan’s - Ain’t Nobody, Players Association’s Turn The Music Up, Earth Wind & Fire’s Saturday Night, Funkadelic’s One Nation and his last release - a reworking of Tony Rallo’s Holdin’ On with the US based Whiskey Disco label.

He’s been described in the press as a musical paragon, someone who has mastered the art of working a dancefloor without disappearing in his own agenda!

Support on the night comes from Ireland’s Wirksworthian export Dom Botting. Known in Ireland as Disco Dom, he has built up a huge reputation there as a DJ at the forefront of bringing disco back to the dancefloors.

Dom, who will be back in Matlock for one night only, said: “We’re really looking forward to this year’s festival. Being able to bring Derek Kaye to a venue in Matlock and have the event as free entry is incredible. As someone who usually plays large music festivals and cities across the UK, this is your chance to see the guy in an intimate venue.”

Local DJ collective Sunny Side Up will start the night off from 9pm.
