Dobbies Chesterfield serves up afternoon tea with a difference
With Mother’s Day fast approaching, Dobbies, one of the UK’s leading garden centres, has enlisted the help of children to create an extra special afternoon floral tea party as it gets set to welcome an influx of mums to its stores this weekend.
Showing there are endless possibilities and ways to say thanks and treat deserving mums on Mothering Sunday, Dobbies has made the most of some of the country’s favourite plants and flowers to serve up afternoon tea with a blooming wonderful twist.
Well known for its mouth-watering cakes and treats, Dobbies is expecting this Mother’s day to be sweeter than ever - the company’s 34 stores will serve over 3,000 scones, 1,000 tray-bakes and more than 500 cupcakes – all of which will be enjoyed with 15,000 cups of tea and coffee.
There are endless possibilities of gifts for lovely mums at Dobbies. The most popular choice of flower or plant to buy mum is an orchid with 7,000 likely to be sold in the run up to Mother’s Day alone. Begonias and hydrangeas are also popular with 2,000 and 1,500 respectively expected to be rung through the tills as gifts for mums ahead of 31 March.
Suzanne Hoblyn, head of gifting at Dobbies said: “No matter what age we are, mums deserve something special for wiping our snotty noses and rubbing our bruised knees, but it’s always tough choosing what to buy. Plants and flowers are definitely the most popular choice, when it comes to dads having to choose something for their young children to give to mum. Women tend to look at our home-wares and gift section more, but often they too, return to horticulture, knowing you can never go wrong with a pretty plant.”
