Helen Reddy's rise to fame is charted in I Am Woman screening in Chesterfield

A biographical film about Australian singing star Helen Reddy is the big attraction at Chesterfield Pomegranate Theatre.

I Am Woman takes its name from Helen’s iconic song which became a rallying cry for the women’s liberation movement in the Seventies. The film charts Helen’s rise to fame as she arrives in New York with a young daughter where she finds it difficult to secure a recording contract. Her prospects look up when she befriends a journalist through whom she meets a talent agent who later becomes her husband.

Also screening is Eternal Beauty (cert15) about a jilted bride to be who has a breakdown and spirals into a chaotic world where love and family relationships collide. Billie Piper, David Thewlis and Penelope Wilton star in Eternal Beauty, showing on Tuesday, October 20 at 7.30pm.

There’s an opportunity to watch a satellite broadcast of Sir David Attenborough's documentary A Life On Our Planet (PG) on Wednesday, October 21, at 2pm. The TV presenter will be reflecting on the memorable moments of his lifetime as a naturalist and the devastating changes he has seen. The documentary will be followed by a Q&A with David Attenborough live from the world premiere at the iconic Royal Albert Hall.
