Flautist Ashley Solomon shows his skill in playing challenging pieces

Ashley Solomon explored the repertoire for unaccompanied flute by three great Baroque composers: father and son Johann Sebastian Bach and Carl

Philip Bach, and Georg Phillipp Teleman, writes Mavis Kirkham.

This varied and challenging body of music was skilfully and really beautifully played at Buxton’s Pavilion Arts Centre.

This famous flautist told us of ancient flutes he had played, including the Meissen porcelain flute in the Royal Collection, last played by King George III. He also told amusing stories of composers writing difficult flute music to trip up that royal flautist.

This was a most enjoyable concert by a really accomplished musician.
