Ovacast’s gig for Hereditary Breast Cancer Helpline

Live music, burlesque dancing and raising funds for a good cause will all take place next week when popular indie rockers Ovacast host a charity gig.

Eight years ago the quartet took part in a campaign to raise money for the Hereditary Breast Cancer Helpline which saw the band’s single No Big Deal, featuring radio presenter Becky Measures, hit the charts.

Now the band, which formed 16 years ago, will be raising funds for the charity again with a gig at Real Time Music, in Chesterfield.

Playing a mix of new and old rock/indie classics, Ovacast will also be joined by burlesque dancers Reenies Rockettes.

Drummer Mark Hewitt said: “We originally got on board with the charity after hearing of Becky Measures’ brave decision to undergo a double mastectomy. It really touched us all and we thought that given our musical abilities, it would perhaps enable us to help in some way.”

The band, also made up of Steven Hewitt, Ben Hewitt and James Nelson has raised thousands of pounds for the Hereditary Breast Cancer Helpline.

Covering acts ranging from AC/DC to Stereophonics and Three Doors Down, the band’s music appeals to a wide variety of tastes.

The gig will take place on Friday, May 9, from 8.15pm.

Tickets are £3 available now from Real Time Music on Marsden Street or on the door.
