Pantomime boost for NOWMADS

“You will go to the ball!“

That was the good news imparted to Cinderella (Hannah Lishman) by Nottinghamshire county councillor Philip Owen during a special visit to a pantomime rehearsal in Kimberley.

Cllr Owen met up with members of NOWMADS (Nottingham West Music and Drama Society) and presented the thespians with a grant cheque for £500 from his Divisional Fund, which supports local groups and organisations.

Following the success of its autumn production Half A Sixpence, NOWMADS is in rehearsals for its annual pantomime, Cinderella. Tom Bailey is directing a production for the first time and he will looking to Hannah Lishman and fellow principals to ensure its success.

Cllr Owen was given a taste of what’s to come when he ran in to to NOWMADS’ leading ladies in the shape of the Ugly Sisters Grizelda and Mona, aka Steve Clarke and Haydn Taylor, who gave him a torrid time during his short visit.

“The pair were at their mischievous best and made such a fuss that I was all of a sweat afterwards,” said Cllr Owen.

“The NOWMADS have come a long way since its inception in 1979 and the quality of the group’s shows gets better and better. I am delighted to support them with funding which will hep to pay for the hire of the costumes and special requirements.”

Musical director John Wilson and his talented orchestra, and choreographers Jane Exton, Merle Harrison and Emma Heydon will be making telling contributions to the production.

Cinderella is being performed at the Kimberley School Theatre from Wednesday February 18 to Friday, February 20, starting at 7.15.p.m each night.
