Pulp band members attend gala film show

Band members of Pulp including frontman Jarvis Cocker will attend a gala screening of their new film.

The screening of Pulp: a Film about Life, Death & Supermarkets launches the Sheffield Doc/Fest on Saturday, June 7, in Sheffield City Hall at 5pm.

Audiences will arrive at City Hall to the 48-strong Harmony Sheffield choir congregated on the steps singing favourite Pulp songs.

This year’s Doc/Fest offers more opportunity than ever for local audiences to join in.

Screenings will take place almost every night at the Devil’s Arse in the Peak District (including on opening night).

The festival is also going to the gardens of Chatsworth on the evening of Wednesday, June 11, for an outdoor screening of Love Is All which explores a century of love and courtship on screen and includes a soundtrack composed and recorded by Richard Hawley. Doors open at 6pm when audiences can throw down their blankets and settle in for an evening of entertainment and film, including live sets from Hot Soles and the Everly Pregnant Brothers.

Before the start of the screening at Chatsworth, director Kim Longinotto and Richard Hawley will talk about Love Is All and take questions from the audience. Food and drink stalls will sell picnic hampers, champagne, wine and beer plus a selection of meals from meaty Hog Roast to fresh and healthy vegetarian curry.

For the first-time ever the Doc/Fest Interactive Expo in the Millennium Gallery will be open free to the public Saturday-Wednesday, 10-5pm. This immersive exhibition will showcase the most innovative projects shaping the future of interactive documentary with 15 projects hosted across many screens including iPads and computers. The 150 film programme is jam-packedand includes 21 world, 12 European, 8 international and 24 UK premieres. Highlights include Doc/Fest Ideas & Science supported by the Wellcome Trust, the Green strand and of course the music docs, plus these year more live music than ever.

This year’s live music events happen during and beyond the festival. Saint Etienne closes the festival with the UK Premiere of their live soundtrack to The Way We Used to Live, plus British Sea Power, Will Gregory, Summer Camp will all perform live.

On Father’s Day, Sunday June 15, there’s a rare and very special treat for the all the family of original Felix The Cat shorts accompanied live by The High Llamas. A special family ticket offer is available of £15 for two children plus two adults or three children and one adult. Adult tickets are £10 each.
