The dream almost came true last Saturday evening. Nearly a hundred music lovers, including two choirs and a small group of church singers from Scotland, Germany and the USA, gathered in the hall to raise the rafters with song.

Singers from The Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter Day Saints courageously opened the proceedings with an unaccompanied song about their work in the community.

Springwell Academy Choir were next: a group of three dozen singers made up of the school and adult education centre’s junior, youth and adult choirs, with guitar and drum accompaniment.

They sang Counting Stars, with cartwheels from two younger choir members, and returned a little later with The Best Day of My Life.

Chesterfield Male Voice Choir, in their familiar green jackets, contributed two standards: The Wonder of You and When I Fall In Love.

The evening concluded with a rousing rendition of The Battle Hymn of the Republic from choir members and audience – and Jeremy Kay is already planning the next Big Choir Experience.
