Review: The Fitzwilliam String Quartet at St John’s Church Buxton

It was so good to hear the long established and accomplished The Fitzwilliam String Quartet at St John’s Church, Buxton.

They played Purcell’s Fantasia No 11, a continuing Purcell treat for those of us who had heard Dido and Aeneas the previous evening.

This was followed by Beethoven’s String Quartet No 12 in E flat major, Opus 127.

The quartet excelled themselves with Shostakovich’s String Quartet No 3 in F, Opus 73. It was powerful, sensitive and wonderful to hear.
