South African music comes to Crich

Crich rounds off a sell-out Live & Local season by bringing South American music to the village this weekend.

Leo Turner and Carlos Muñoz Villalobos combine the pure tonal qualities of the classical guitar with the haunting sounds of traditional Andean instruments .

The duo’s work is inspired by the great masters of the guitar such as Lauro, Villa Lobos and contemporaries such as Gustavo Santaolalla.

Their recital at The Glebe Field Centre, on Saturday, May 17, will feature solo guitar pieces, guitar duos, pieces for quena (traditional South American flute), ocarina, cajon, charango (Andean lute) and pan pipes.

Leo is a versatile guitarist who performs music from the classical, Spanish, jazz and popular repertoire. He has many years’ experience performing in concerts and festivals. Carlos is originally from Chile and performed for over 20 years as a member of the leading South American

group ‘Caliche’. He plays a wide variety of instruments.
