Check out McDonagh’s jet-black comedy at Nottingham Playhouse

Martin McDonagh’s pitch black comedy A Skull In Connemara can be seen at Nottingham Playhouse from Friday, May 22 to June 6.

The play is directed by Associate Director Fiona Buffini and designed by Linbury Prize-winner Madeleine Girling.

Mick Dowd’s wife died seven years ago. An accident it was, so they said. But now the local cemetery’s full; it’s time for a clear-out, and as the spades dig down into the earth of Connemara, might it be more than just bones they find?

Might the secrets of seven years ago be exhumed as well?

Fiona Buffini and Madeleine Girling last collaborated on the Nottingham Playhouse Theatre Company’s critically acclaimed production of J.B. Priestley’s Time and the Conways last autumn.

Buffini also created and directed the phenomenally successful Mass Bolero film last year, which received over 60,000 views on YouTube.

Nottingham Playhouse associate director, Fiona Buffini said: “Exploding stereotypes has always been something I’ve relished when directing. With ‘Time and the Conways’ I was able to lift the lid on family life and what really goes on in a seemingly happy family.

“Now I’m excited to dig below the surface of a supposedly quiet village in rural Ireland with Martin McDonagh’s exceptional comedy, which explores with wit and compassion the most unneighbourly, violent and ugliest behaviour imaginable.”
