Dronfield Players scoop awards at SADATA festival

Dronfield Players competed against other amateur dramatic groups from the area in the SADATA one-act play festival held in the Library Theatre, Sheffield.

Members of the society wrote two plays, with The Blackbird’s Song by David Lumb proving particularly successful.

David’s composition was voted the best play in the open competition and he was awarded The Lillian Hartley Rose Bowl.

Other honours for his play included best performance by a SADATA member group, which scooped the SADATA Award), best original script and female actor performance for Janet Black who received The Betty Crawford Award.

The Champagne Moment was Margaret Mace’s opening lines in the play.

The society received other nominations but no prizes. These included Paul Black and Gary Jarvis for best actor, Chrissy Broughton for best director, Margaret Mace for best female actor.

Dronfield Players’ next production will be Surprise Package, to be staged at the Civic Hall in November.
