Whipping up suspense, Frazer Hines kept tight lipped about how long his character, Roger the butler, stays alive. “Ooh, I can’t tell you that. I could be the murderer,” he said.

“It’s a good play and we are enjoying bringing it to the country,” he said. “We’ve another 20 weeks to cover England.”

Best known as Joe Sugden in Emmerdale, a part he played for 16 years, and for his role as Jamie, the longest running companion in Dr Who, Frazer will be working on two films after the tour finishes.

Meanwhile, he’s looking forward to returning to Chesterfield where he performed in the comedy Boeing Boeing many years ago. “I seem to remember a great time here,” he said.
