Gripping tale launches season

The 2014-15 Live & Local season at the Crich Glebe Field Centre kicks off with a brand new adaptation of Edgar Allan Poe’s The Tell Tale Heart on Sunday, November 30.

Suitable for audiences aged 12 and over, this is a funny, inventive and absorbing version of his gripping story about a murder that bites back.

A wealthy recluse and his nurse are barricaded in a gloomy mansion with blacked out windows and are slowly driving each other mad.

When the nurse finally snaps and murders his patient, he’s convinced he’s got away with the perfect crime. But when a determined thumping noise starts up beneath the floorboards his nightmare begins.

This riveting tale of murder in the dark is performed by one actor and an on-stage sound artist, creating clever live sound effects and music. Every heartbeat, every ticking death-watch beetle, every bump in the night will happen right before your ears.

Tense, funny, and scary in equal measure, The Tell Tale Heart will please anyone who likes a good old fashioned horror movie, crime novel or detective drama. It plays on the power of suggestion, without spilling a single drop of blood, so those of a nervous disposition need not look away!

The show previously toured in 2013, when audience members were entranced.
