Guildhall plays host to the Bard’s work

Derby Shakespeare Theatre Company returns to the stage from March 3-7 when Henry IV Part II is performed at the city’s Guildhall Theatre.

This comic, cynical, bawdy presentation of an England in turmoil is to be directed by David Dunford.

The fourth Henry did have an easy reign. As a young man, he was banished by Richard II, in retaliation he invaded England, seized the throne and eventually was instrumental in Richard’s murder.

The play covers 1403-1413, from the battle of Shrewsbury to Henry’s death but although it is a piece loosely based on historical fact, it is by no means a dull chronicle.

The characters are interested and there is plenty of earthy humour from Sir John Falstaff and his drinking friends.

Steve Dunning has returned to the company to play Falstaff while Chris Scott is King Henry.

Harry Gibson appears as Henry, Prince Of Wales (Hal), with Irene Button as Mistress Quickly and Niki Caister as Doll Tearsheet.

Performances of Shakespeare’s play begin at 7.30pm nightly.

Tickets to see Henry IV Part II are available by calling the box office on 01332 255800 or you can buy online at www.derbylive.co.uk. Adult tickets are £12 (£10 concessions).
