Set in a beauty parlour in Louisiana, run by Truvy and her eager, but inexperienced assistant Annelle, the show focuses on their regular customers, Clairee, Ouiser, M’Lynn and Shelby.

Amid the day to day gossip is a heart-rending story of Shelby, newly married and pregnant, despite the fact that diabetes could make child-birth life-threatening.
