Here comes the summer!

Summer 2015 at Derby Theatre promises an exciting theatrical ride for audiences and participants of all ages.

The venue’s summer season will take in everything from Shakespeare to Sebastian Faulks, from stand-up comedy to a great season of Studio shows, classic Ayckbourn to thrilling shows from Theatre Arts students.

Derby Theatre will once again be the East Midlands venue to host the National Theatre’s Connection Festival on May 2-3, a two-day festival of performance, new writing, workshops, fun, games and lots more for young people aged 13-25.

Birdsong, by The Original Theatre Company & Birdsong Productions, will make a welcome return to Derby Theatre from May 27-31. Birdsong is the hit, critically acclaimed stage show based on the world famous novels by Sebastian Faulks. Following a sell-out run at the theatre in 2013, this highly acclaimed production is expected to be just as popular with audiences a second time round.

From June 16-20, Shakespeare at the Tobacco Factory and Tobacco Factory Theatres will present Shakespeare’s timeless masterpiece, Romeo & Juliet (pictured). A story of boy meets girl. But it’s not a simple love story. These children’s lives are fuelled by mistakes, hatred, violence and exquisite pain.

Sarah Brigham, artistic director for Derby Theatre, said: “All of us at Derby Theatre are looking forward to a vibrant season this summer.

“Derby is celebrating a season of city-wide festivals and we are proud to contribute with the third edition of our own festival, DEparture Lounge, a week of performance and participation that uplifts audiences and helps artists take flight as well as contributing events to the film, book and comedy festivals.“
