Latest chapter proves exciting for talented young acting group

For the second year running, Chapter 4 is fortunate to be part of National Theatre Connections, an invaluable opportunity for youth theatres and schools to perform one of ten newly commissioned plays in a chosen partner theatre, with the possibility of winning through to perform the play at the National Theatre.

Chapter 4’s chosen play The Boy Preference is by Elinor Cook.

The play is set in the future and focuses on a world where there is a ‘Girl Deficit’ and the birth of boys is celebrated with fireworks and

celebrations while the birth of girls is kept quiet.

The experience of presenting new challenging work, seeing other youth theatres, and gaining advice from professionals such as NT Connections Director James Blakey, is much appreciated as the young people work towards the next stage.

Sam, from the group, reflects on being “excited about getting feedback and seeing what people think” about the interpretation.

Colleague Steven said: “I’m enjoying the chance to take new roles in new plays to new heights.”

Nottingham-based youth theatre, Flying High, will be the guest of Chapter 4’s on April 14, presenting their NT Connections play, The Edelweiss Pirates.

All of this is part of the lead up to NT Connections 2015 at Chapter 4’s partner theatre, Derby Theatre, where a performance will take place on May 3.
