Fending off 2,000 rivals, she has been awarded one of 36 places on a Bachelor of Arts degree in acting at the Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts.

Joelle will have one last hurrah before heading off to further her education. She will be playing the part of Tup Tim in The King and I, presented by Handsworth and Hallam Theatre Company at Sheffield’s Montgomery Theatre from June 11 to 14.

Little did Joelle know when she was cast in the role that she would shortly be offered the place at LIPA.

She said: “it was a long process as I had my first audition back in February and then had to go back for another workshop quite some time after. I thought I hadn’t got in but days later I had just finished work and my mum and friend called me screaming down the phone to say LIPA had offered me a place! I was in shock and then completely excited!

“I couldn’t stand still I was pacing up and down and it was probably just as well I had a dance lesson straight after hearing the news to go to!”
