Somercotes Choral Society to perform in Alfreton on Saturday

Somercotes Choral Society, which performs two major concerts a year, is returning to Alfreton on Saturday, October 25, after an absence of ten years for its performance of Come Rain or Shine!

The concert starts at 7pm and the venue is Alfreton Grange Arts College.

The society, which was formed in 1951, currently has around 50 members, and in recent years has performed at South Normanton Post Mill Centre.

Now, in an effort to widen their audience, they are moving to Alfreton Grange Arts College, a location where they last performed in 2004.

Carole Jones, the concert secretary, said: “When the choir was established it consisted of just 20 members, but grew from strength to strength under the leadership of the late Wilfred Clarke, who was a singer and voice coach. In fact, his son Jeff is still a member of the choir as are a number of his relatives.”

Come Rain or Shine! features around 20 songs about the weather and seasons. Popular ones include Autumn Leaves, Blue Skies, Over the Rainbow, Summertime and Sunrise Sunset.

For this concert the choir will be joined by Blidworth Welfare Brass Band Ensemble.

Tickets cost £7 (under 16s £4) and are available from the box office on 07905 242 750 or 01773 602 335.
