The lively show for children and their families tells the story of Sally and her brother on a cold, rainy day. After staring wistfully out of the window, they suddenly see a tall, red and white striped hat appearing around the door. The Cat in the Hat is the funniest and most mischievous cat the children have met and soon they all go on an amazing adventure.

The National Theatre adaptation has been rated 4 stars by the Telegraph and The Stage thinks it “triumphs as the maestro of mischief”. The talented National Theatre team has remained loyal to Dr Suess’ original, with sets and costumes based largely on the 50s stylised illustrations from the iconic book, together with a fittingly jazzy score.

Published in 1957 The Cat in the Hat was written specifically to address the lack of good quality early years books. Its punchy, repetitive and often rhyming text soon became a best-seller and three years after publication over a million copies had been sold. The plot manages to tackle issues of meeting strangers, absent parents and how children react to chaos.

The Cat in the Hat takes place on Tuesday, February 24 at 5pm and Wednesday, February 25 at 1pm and 3pm. Tickets cost £13 for adults, £9 for children. Contact the box office on 0845 127 2190 or book online at www.buxtonoperahouse.org.uk
