Writer’s plays hit stage

Award-winning playwright Tim Elgood has ‘been to the dogs and back’ to research a one-act play which is to be performed in a Derbyshire theatre.

Tim, who lives in Fritchley, describes ‘The Dog House’ as a “dog’s eye view of being rescued” and says it was inspired by visits to ‘The Ark’ at Ashbourne’s Animal Welfare Centre.

He and the many volunteers at the registered charity hope his poignant comedy will help to raise the profile of the rehoming work being carried out there.

The play is dedicated to ‘Harry’ who is Tim and his wife’s 16-year-old Border Terrier cross whom they adopted as a puppy.

It will accompany another one-act play at Derby’s Guildhall Theatre.

The second composition is Bare Words, also a comedy which focuses on the trials and tribulations of trying to write a successful play. Tim explained that the latter subject matter required no research whatsoever and was very much an ‘emotional striptease’.
