Top-class classical concerts for Derbyshire town

Top-class classical music events are coming to Buxton this autumn and winter.

Each month The Pavilion Gardens offers the chance to see talented musicians perform at lunchtime concerts.

Entitled Coffee Concerts, the next performance from The Lowry Brass Quintet is scheduled for November 12, offering a medley of tuba, horn, trombone and trumpet.

On December 9, a special Coffee Concert will welcome the joint leader of the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, violinist James Clark to take to the stage with principal cellist Jonathan Aasgaard. The concert marks the second performance of the society’s residency in Buxton.

Ensemble 10/10, the contemporary arm of Liverpool Philharmonic, will open the residency on November 3, performing the world premiere of a new work by Nigel Osborne.

The highlight of the three dates will be a concert with RLP Orchestra directed by violinist and conductor Julian Rachlin (November 27). The orchestra will fill the Opera House with two pieces by Mozart and Mendelssohn.

Classical music lovers can also look forward to New Year’s Eve as the Annual Gala Concert returns with the British Philharmonic Orchestra.

The Northern Chamber Orchestra will visit town in the New Year.
