VIDEO: Sound of the drum beat

Buxton Opera House will be banging the drum for thundering rhythms, exciting choreography and high energy when a performance by the Mugenkyo Taiko Drummers arrives at the venue later this month.

As the most successful touring taiko drum group on this continent, Mugenkyo has developed a spectacularly passionate style with music for the soul.

Fusing the traditional with a contemporary look and sound, the piece is a modern stage phenomenon.

The audience can expect to be captivated by the sounds of the huge taiko drums, mysterious masked choreography with inventive lighting, muscular synchronisation timed to perfection, post-apocalyptic martial imagery and infectious belly laugh humour, which all combine in a spellbinding display of sheer athleticism.

This year marks an important one for the Mugenkyo group, which is celebrating 20 years of performing in the UK.

Tickets to see the Mugenkyo Taiko Drummers at Buxton Opera House on Saturday May 17, at 7.30pm, are priced £18 and £20.

They can be purchased from the Box Office on 0845 127 2190 or online at www.buxtonoperahouse.org.uk.
