Wartime musical follows struggles of cabaret singer

Now on its fifth and final tour, Miss Nightingale has excited national critics winning acclaim as a new British musical that brings to life the on-stage glamour and off-stage affairs of war-torn London.

The show which comes to Buxton for the first time is packed full of tongue-in-cheek cabaret numbers and beautiful ballads.

The man behind the show is award-winning theatre composer Matthew Bugg (Black Coffee, Some Like It Hotter). He said: “I got my first job at Buxton Opera House, playing viola in the orchestra for a production of The King and I. And ever since, I’ve been determined to see my own work on stage at this stunning theatre.”

Miss Nightingale stars Stockport girl Clara Darcy as the lead character Maggie. Clara, who studied at Ridge Danyers College in Marple, also plays trumpet as part of her role. Asked about how she will cope on stage, she said: “To be honest I’m quite used to it -they’re all challenging in their own ways - you just have to keep up your skills on all of them.“
