Wartime truce at Christmas is commemorated in concert at Wirksworth

Wirksworth choir Raise Your Voices will commemorate the events of Christmas Day, 1914, when guns fell silent and opposing armies exchanged tokens of goodwill, shared food, drink and cigarettes and even playing a game of football around the trenches.

The moving story of the day will be told in song and narration by the choir, under the direction of Lester Simpson, who for 20 years has famously been singing songs and telling stories about the First World War.

The performance takes place in St Mary’s Church, Wirksworth, on Monday, December 8, at 7.30pm. Tickets £5 from Traid Links, Market Place, WirksworthProfits will go to charity.
