A firm of architects has been honoured at an industry award in recognition of the high quality of its buildings.

Robert Evans, of Evans Vettori, based in Matlock Green, was named Architect of the Year in the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) East Midlands Awards 2014.

The firm also won awards for two of its buildings – High Edge, in Matlock, and St Joseph’s Church Hall, in Derby.

Robert, a director of the firm alongside Dan Greenway, said: “I feel like I am accepting the award of Architect of the Year on behalf of the entire office.

“RIBA made a point of saying it was the work of the whole team that contributed towards it.

“We are delighted to have won.”

The business has now been put forward for the highly–coveted RIBA National Award for the High Edge project.

The winner of this will be announced on June 19.

Robert added: “Even being nominated for a national award is a great honour.

“We hugely appreciate the way that Matlock has welcomed us and supported us over the years.”

The shortlist for the RIBA Stirling Prize for the best building of the year will be drawn from the RIBA National Award–winning buildings later in the year.

Valeria Passetti, RIBA East Midlands regional chairman, said: “The RIBA East Midlands Awards are a fantastic celebration of the inspiring architecture that the region has to offer.

“It’s also really exciting to see the majority of the winning buildings coming from practices within the East Midlands, in recognition of the talent that we have here in the region.”
