Cheers to marathon man Rick

It’s not unusual for good bar managers to go that extra mile for their customers.

However one Buxton employee will be going an extra 26 miles next weekend, to raise money for a children’s cancer charity.

Rick Forder, who works as a bar manager at the Old Hall Hotel, is running the London Marathon on April 13.

Taking part in the annual event alongside his mum Kath, Rick is running to raise much-needed cash to help the national charity Children with Cancer UK, which invests millions of pounds every year in life-saving research, welfare and campaign programmes to help save young lives.

Buxton-born Rick said: “It’s been pretty tough going training to compete, but certainly worthwhile.

“The support we’ve received from everyone is Buxton has been amazing, and it has made both mum and I really determined to finish the marathon in good time.”

Rick’s efforts have been applauded by the local community, with New Bodies Buxton holding a ‘zumbathon’ to raise cash for the two budding athletes, and race sponsors The Old Hall Hotel and parent company Danubius Hotels both firmly behind the cause.

“Rick’s hard work and determination is admirable,” said Sally Potter, General Manager at the Old Hall Hotel.

“He’s been training in all sorts of weather and keeping us all updated of his progress as he’s been going on.

“Now we’re almost there, we’re all tremendously excited and proud to see him run for such a worthy cause.”
