10. Burlington’s Hair Salon
Vicky: “We’ve got stylists newly qualified that are like twenty years old, to Jason who’s in his fifties… We’ve got somebody for everybody. People say it’s like a family. Very welcoming, very friendly. Everybody has a bit of banter. It’s comfortable. We’re doing Christmas jumper day. People can donate, we’ve got a page set-up with Just Giving, so we’re doing a fundraiser for that. In the salon we’ve got Christmas kits in, so you’re saving 35% on what you would normally.” Hamper prize: cut and finish voucher for a child. Photo: (on Burlington Street)
11. Street Spirit
Matt: “A boutique for alcohol. All sorts of bottles, styles. Gin, rum, whisky, vodka, beer… Just a big old place of all sorts of interesting things to do with alcohol. We’re doing walk-in tastings, so people can just walk in. We get distillers here giving out tastings, giving a talk about the product, so people can try before they buy if they like it. Every Saturday we’ve got one planned up to Christmas.”

12. Y Not Vintage
Dalton: “We import second-hand vintage clothing from all over the world. Then we launder it, get it presentable to sell in the shop at a discount price to what it would be at retail. We aim to get 80s and 90s retro stuff more than anything, because people are after that now. The vintage stuff seems to be made better, for a fraction of the price. We’re going to do a bit of a Christmas sale, and we’ve got some gifts that we’ll be giving out to customers.” Hamper prize: £20 gift card voucher. Photo: (at Vicar Lane shopping centre)
