College lays on new courses

A new range of traineeships launched this summer are aimed at helping 16 to 24-year-olds gain the skills and experience that employers are looking for.

There are a dozen different options, from accounting and hairdressing to welding and catering, which offer work preparation training, a valuable work placement and English and Maths support.

Programme leader Jo Hobbs said: “Thanks to our recent good grading from Ofsted, we are now able to offer this range of traineeships.

“They are designed to help young people become work ready and secure progression either onto an Apprenticeship or a sustainable job role.

“Unlike an apprenticeship, the work placement of a traineeship is unpaid.

“But trainees will be able to access financial support such as JSA during the programme and we offer Traineeships in all the same areas as Apprenticeships.”

Traineeships can last from six weeks up to six months and cover all areas including CV writing, interviews, job search and interpersonal skills.

If the trainee has not achieved a grade A to C in English and Maths at GCSE or, a Functional Skills Qualification if they are over 19, then support will also be given with these vital skills.

At the end of their Traineeship, students will get a formal reference from the employer where they undertook their work placement and a job interview is guaranteed.
