Firms urged to share knowledge

High Peak businesses are being invited to join a volunteer ‘knowledge bank’ of professionals that local charities can tap into when in need.

Volunteer High Peak, a campaign launched on the 30th anniversary of National Volunteers’ Week, is looking for individuals and businesses to pledge a number of hours per month and provide free knowledge and expertise to charities and community organisations.

“Whether you’re a solicitor, accountant, electrician – or just have a good general business knowledge – local charitable organisations are in great need of your advice,” explained Gemma Haddow, of Glossop-based charity-owned social enterprise Digital Outreach.

“You’d be surprised how valuable your day-to-day skills can be to a local voluntary organisation and the difference just a few hours a month of your time can make to the community. Everyone has something they can offer.”

Volunteer Co-ordinator at Glossop Volunteer Centre, Janice Imrie, added: “Volunteer High Peak is a fantastic initiative that will truly make a difference to voluntary groups across the High Peak.”
