In a category committed to improving its environmental performance, these actions have seen Nestlé Waters divert 500 tonnes from landfill in the last 12 months.

The company, which produces brands such as Buxton water, has achieved this ambitious goal one year ahead of the organisation’s planned schedule.

This is through a number of innovative measures and a sustained programme of employee engagement.

Almost every item of waste including paper, cardboard, PET bottles, glass and wooden pallets has been reprocessed into new products.

Of these, almost half then return to Nestlé Waters for re-use.

The small fraction of waste that cannot be recycled is then used as waste for energy.

The announcement comes a year after the opening of the new £35m state-of-the-art factory at Waterswallows in Buxton.

The new factory is one of Europe’s most innovative and efficient bottling facilities and was designed and built with sustainability at its core.
