The MP organised the one and a half hour roadshow to help inform local companies of what to expect when the Tour de France passes close to Glossop later this year.

The event featured presentations from Welcome to Yorkshire – the Yorkshire tourism board which was instrumental in bringing ‘Le Tour’ to Britain this year – as well as a stand from Derbyshire County Council detailing some of the plans for road closures and traffic management on the day itself.

Mr Bingham said: “I wanted to provide some information about what people can expect and how local businesses can turn the event to their advantage.

“The Tour de France is the world’s largest annual sporting event, and to have it pass so close to Glossop is a massive privilege and a great opportunity too.

“I was really pleased to see so many people attend, from various businesses and organisations in the area; we even had to get more chairs out. There were some great questions asked and some very positive discussions started about what can be done to really promote Glossop while the Tour is passing by, and I’d like to thank everyone who took time out of their busy morning to attend.”

This year’s Tour de France begins with two stages in Yorkshire on July 5 and 6. On July 6 the second stage enters the High Peak for six miles, a few short miles north-east of Glossop, with the riders descending Holme Moss before going up over Woodhead on their way to Sheffield.
