Holmebrook Valley Park in Newbold has reportedly been inundated with day trippers this weekend already, with both car parks nearly full.
Now, resident Paul Fields, who lives near the park, has called on Chesterfield Borough Council to lock the gates to stop more people behaving irresponsibly.

“I’m appalled today at the number of vehicles in both car parks. I do not wish the park to close for those in the local area but the gates should be locked to ensure people observe the strict rules in force.
“Failing to do so could hinder hospital resource through potential road accidents or expose individuals to the virus through petrol stations and the key individuals that work there.
“There is little point in police patrolling areas for those violating the government guidelines when it is clearly apparent that it is happening under their noses.”

At the time police said people should not travel in a car for their daily exercise but this has since been relaxed to allow people to drive a short distance.
