Latest NHS figures show that the current death toll as at 5pm yesterday stands at 16 for the Chesterfield Royal NHS Trust.

Across the area there have been 398 confirmed cases – although the figure is thought to be far higher.

Neighbouring Sheffield remains the area’s worst hit place, with 34 deaths and 730 cases.

Both Rotherham and Barnsley have recorded 158 cases each – with 13 deaths in Barnsley and six in Rotherham.

Doncaster still has the lowest number of confirmed cases in South Yorkshire, with 117 cases and eight deaths.

The number of deaths in Chesterfield has increased by one on the previous day’s figure.

Latest numbers released at the Government’s daily briefing yesterday show 4,313 people with the virus have now died in the UK – up by 708 on Friday’s figure – the highest daily rise in the number of cases on one day.

A five-year-old child with underlying health conditions was among those with coronavirus whose deaths were reported in the past day, Cabinet Office Minister Michael Gove said.

There have been 41,903 confirmed cases.

There were 212 deaths in the Midlands, more than in London, where there were 127.

Mr Gove said seven healthcare professionals have now died.

People have been urged to stay at home this weekend and not be tempted out by sunny weather.
