This group of young ladies were students of Matlock C School.
The picture was taken in 1938 and shows the girls lined up in their school yard in front of what appears to be a prefab style building made out of wood.
The yard is defined by a stone wall, behind which are a row of trees.
In the distance you can make out the chimneys from nearby buildings.
At either end of the picture stand the teachers.
The young learners are not pictured in uniform, they instead wear a medly of fashions which were popular in their day.
Some girls grin happily at the camera, while other look shyly towards it.
