Artist draws on his experiencesin Antarctica for lecture tour
Artist Chris Dobrowolski is bringing his fascinating and humorous tales of life in '¨Antarctica to Chesterfield.
The presentation comes to St Leonards Church, Chesterfield, on July 8, as part of a national tour including a week-long run in London.
Chris joined the British Antarctic Survey where, for three and a half months, he livedand worked alongside the scientists, medical professionals, researchers and crewmembers, trying to experiment creatively whilst trying to survive. He discovered that sometimes it’s very difficult to justify your position as an artist whilst everyone around you is a hero.
He built a 12ft Nansen sledge out of picture frames which he had shipped out for the purpose, then, armedwith Antarctic-themed toy figures, plastic penguins, Ladybird books and Action Men, he set out across the ice to capture the essence of this snow bound wilderness.
The night will be hosted by Spital Arts. Tickets £8 or £6, to book, call 01246 220 741 or visit www.facebook.com/SpitalArts
