Chesterfield canal hosts national festival

The National Trailboat Festival and Chesterfield Canal Festival takes place at Staveley Town Basin this Saturday and Sunday from 10am to 5pm.

Staveley Town Lock will be officially opened on Saturday morning.

A parade of illuminated boats from Staveley Basin to Mill Green and back on Saturday will start at 9.30pm when spectators will be able to watch this from Hall Lane, Constitution Hill or Mill Green Bridges or stand on the towpath.

There will be an exhibition of art and photography about the canal by pupils of Brimington Junior School which will be open at Hollingwood Hub from Saturday to Monday.

Brampton Brewery have created a new beer for the festival entitled Brindley’s Bitter.

A flotilla of 30 boats including Chesterfield canal’s tripboats will cruise from Staveley Basin to Tapton and back on Monday, starting at 10am and covering ten miles and ten locks; book a seat for £15 return or £10 one way by calling 07925 851569.
