Cyclists marked a year of achievements by inviting a top guest of honour to their annual celebration ceremony.
Matlock Cycling Club held its third annual dinner ay the Fishpond Hotel in Matlock Bath in 1955 when Ray Booty – Britain’s leading cyclist – was the club’s VIP guest.
Among his many success was first in the Isle of Man Road Race, first Bath 100 miles Time Trial, second in the British Best All-rounder competition and member of the British team in the World Road Race championships.
After dinner Mr Booty went on to present trophies won by the Matlock cyclists and he is pictured here (third from left) with Albert Renshaw, Brian Slater, Graham Bland, Dennnis Hawley, Bill Brentnnall and Philip Taylor.
Graham was main senior prizewinner, taking the Club BAR Trophy, Cannock and Back Trophy, Buxton and Back Trophy, Hill Climb Trophy, Mountain Time Trial Trophy and fastest ten mile TT Plaque.
