Emmerdale stars to join charity match in Cromford

Familiar faces from the popular soap will include Chris Chittell - Eric Pollard, Matthew Wolfenden - David Metcalfe, Chris Bisson - Jai Sharma, and Natalie Anderson - Alicia Gallagher, who will all take part in the match on June 21 and raise money for blood cancer charity Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research.

Alex Bunting, Chairman of Cromford Meadows Cricket Club, said: “”This is a landmark in the club’s history, and what better way to celebrate than a charity cricket match against some of the best known soap stars on our television today. There is also the opportunity for people to enjoy a VIP tea with the stars, it will be a day to remember for everyone, but most importantly is will help to raise much need funds for the blood cancer charity Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research.”

“Blood cancers are the third biggest cancer killer. Money raised will help LLR in its mission to beat blood cancer and prevent deaths.”

Cromford Meadows Cricket Club is within sight of Richard Arkwright’s original cotton mill - the birthplace of the industrial revolution. The ground is also where world-renowned cricketer WG Grace lost a game to a woman in a bet at the turn of the century.

The charity match will include live music from vocalist Beth McCarthy who was a finalist on BBC’s ’The Voice’. There will be an auction with two signed cricket prints donated by ex-Derbyshire Legend Ole Mortensen signed by Ole, Michael Holding and Sir Donald Bradman. The event includes kwik cricket from 9.30 to 11.30, a barbecue, bar and a bouncy castle.

Entry is free and the charity game begins at midday with tea from 2pm to 3pm. There is a chance to have VIP tea with the stars with hospitality available at £20 per person or £150 for a table of eight.
