Spring is firmly upon us and with it means the arrival of festival season and there’s plenty of options in and around Chesterfield to provide entertainment (and a fair amount of alcohol) on these warmer days.

5. Chesterfield Canal Festival
The festival will be held at Staveley Town Basin on Saturday June 24 and Sunday June 25 with free entertainment including music, dance and street theatre between 10am and 5pm. Concerts will be held at 7.30pm on the Friday and Saturday with the return of the ever-popular Swing Commanders. 6. Buxton Flowerpot Trail
Probably one of the more colourful events - Buxton's Flowerpot Trail returns this year thanks to continued support from Derbyshire County Council and High Peak Borough Council. Run by, community arts group, Funny Wonders the trail exists to bring a smile to the community with all encouraged to get involved. The trail theme is Gilbert and Sullivan operas so entries need to be thinking about pirates, fairies and modern major generals. 7. Dog Fair
Dogs and beer... it's the perfect combination! The Kelstedge Inn will be hosting their dog fair once again on Saturday, June 3 to showcase local small business who provide everything our four legged friends could ever want. Photo: Unsplash
8. Shipley Country Park Food and Drink
This free event, run by Madhatters Events, takes place on Saturday, June 17 and Sunday, June 18 and will be the seventh year the festival has taken place at Shipley Country Park. It promises two days of delicious food and drink, children's entertainment, and live music. Photo: Lindsay Martin
