A community-owned pub located close to some of the Peak District’s most popular attractions has “ambitious” plans after undergoing a revamp.
The Anglers Rest in Bamford is a community-owned pub that has recently overhauled their menu and beer offering – as well as sprucing up the inside of the venue.
The pub, located below Bamford Edge and only 1.5 miles from Ladybower Reservoir, is popular with tourists – while maintaining the support of local residents.
The pub has also undergone some cosmetic changes. Jonathan said: “We’ve spruced the pub up - all of the public areas have had a bit of a refresh. We’ve done things like painting, and sanding and revarnishing the tables. It’s been cosmetic stuff really.” Photo: Brian Eyre
Jonathan said: “We’ve got ambitious plans for the future. We’ve got some space upstairs that we hope to be able to get funding for, to renovate and potentially turn into a function room or accommodation. We already have a flat that we let out and a holiday let as well, but we’d like to expand that. Having letting rooms is a good catch for anybody, and there’s a shortage of that type of accommodation in the area, and we do get a lot of tourists.” Photo: Brian Eyre
Jonathan said: “We have regular events - a folk night on the first Sunday of every month, a roots music night on the second Sunday of every month, a quiz every other Wednesday. There are various groups that meet in the pub, we have art exhibitions with various local artists - we’ve got lots of activities. It is a community hub, and that’s more than just words - we get the community involved in everything we do.” Photo: Brian Eyre
Jonathan said: “We’ve got local customers who come in very regularly and that’s great. We’ve got a lot of people in the village who know that the food offering is more consistent, better quality and still good value. We’ve also got people coming up from Sheffield or Manchester who, increasingly, see the Google reviews and give it a try. It’s nice having that balance.” Photo: Brian Eyre
