In the 70s the shy and modest Gilbert O’Sullivan made an unlikely figure in the glitter ball decade of pop. However for five years his sensitive and intense songs were just as popular as offerings from the flamboyant Elton John, selling millions of records, notching up six No 1 singles and earning him three Ivor Novello awards.

His 2012 release The Very Best of – A Singer & His Songs entered the UK album charts at number 12, and his quirky Ooh Wakka Doo became the theme song for National Lottery adverts across the UK!

Gilbert’s latest long-player Latin ala G! explores the music that influenced O’Sullivan in the early 60s, when Brazilian artists such as Astrud Gilberto and Sergio Mendes were beginning to gain popularity.

He will be performing tracks from his latest album as well as classics from his extensive back catalogue at Buxton Opera House on Tuesday, February 16, backed by his ten-piece band.

Gilbert’s concert starts at 7.30pm. Tickets £28-£33. To book or for further details, call 01298 72190 or visit www.buxtonoperahouse.org.uk
