Gomez star heads Matlock Bath's Pavfest for Syria

Bands from the Derbyshire Dales and beyond will play their hearts out at a festival in Matlock Bath Pavilion.

Mercury Prize-winning Ben Ottewell from Gomez, will be headlining the event on Saturday, May 21.

Legendary skiffle band Please Y’Self, acoustic rock outfit Left Hand Drive, party band Facsimile, steampunky Blackfish, Bruiser with the infamous Collette Dewhurst on vocals, good-time blues-rockers The King B’s and indie sensations Echoed In Earth are also on the bill.

The eccentric and fun-loving Wirksworth Ukelele Orchestra will help the show go with a swing.

Solo artistes will include performance poet Mark Gwynne Jones, singer-songwriter Carol Fieldhouse, jazz pianist, singer and raconteur Gerry Kriebich, Derby singer-songwriter MJ Gills and blues songwriter Kev Butterfield.

Matlock singer-songwriter Shannon Walker and the Chris Izaacs/Peter Freen infused sounds of Niall McKay will be adding their sound to the mega gig, entitled Pavfest for Syria.

Five years after the Syrian crisis began, more than a quarter of a million children are living in constant fear of barrel bombs, air strikes and shelling.

Since the start of the crisis, nearly 12,000 children are among the 100,000 people who have lost their lives.

More than 2.3 million youngsters have had to leave the country.

Pavfest for Syria on May 21 runs from 2pm to 9pm.

Tickets cost £7 and £5 and are now on sale. Proceeds go to Disaster Emergency Committee Syria Crisis Appeal, Save the Children Syria Appeal, Medecine Sans Frontieres Syria Emergency Appeal.
