In Memory Lane this week we’re featuring two stories from the Saturday 28 October 1972 edition of the Matlock Mercury.

A reader brought a copy of the 29-year-old paper into the office - and it’s a fascinating read.

The front page picture is this dramatic snap of two vehicles involved in a collision at the Kelstedge crossroads, near Ashover.

The drivers of the vehicles were taken by ambulance to Chesterfield Royal Hospital.

One of the drivers, a man from Whatstandwell, was detained, while the other driver, from Chesterfield, was treated for minor injuries. The road was blocked by the cars for half an hour.
