A LOCAL football team to be feared in the Dales during the 50s was Youlgrave – winners of many trophies and medals.

One such team to come up against them in 1953 was Wensley, the only undefeated team in the Bakewell and District League at the time.

An early injury to a visiting player meant a hastily re-arranged team and up to that point Wensley were holding their own although a goal down scored by Moran.

Further goals by Frost and Moran sealed the result and Youlgrave added another scalp to their tally.

The Youlgrave team was (left to right) back row: Aaron Taylor (trainer) Cliff Haywood, Len Gladwin, Peter Coleman, Wilf Lincoln (captain) Keith Taylor, Geoff Wragg and Ellis Bowering (linesman).

Front row: Arthur Marsden, (manager) Jock Moran, Max Dakin, Brian Frost, Rex Bacon, Norman Gladwin, Brian Coleman.
