Ashley Franklin was also commended for his panorama picture of the village of Milford, covered in a blanket of snow in the Society of International Nature and Wildlife Photographers' Winterscapes photo competition.

He said: "This image will be included in the first ever photo book of the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site, to be published next year.

"It will be the 250th anniversary of Sir Richard Arkwright building the world’s first water-powered cotton mill, which also saw the start of the factory system, making this World Heritage Site one of the most significant on Earth.

Ashley Franklin was also highly commended for his panorama of Milford in Derbyshire.

"I am a 66 year-old professional photographer who has lived in the same millworker’s cottage in Milford for 43 years."

The overall contest winner, Sergej Morgach, an urban planner from St Petersburg, used a drone to capture a wonderful landscape near his home town in Russia..
